About Our Doors

Are you affiliated with Ikea?
We are not affiliated or associated with Ikea® or Ikea canada® in any way. All Kitch doors and parts are 100% after-market and meant to accessorize Ikea® cabinet systems.

Which cabinet systems do Kitch doors accessorize?
We make doors that fit both the new SEKTION kitchen systems, PAX closets, GODMORGON bathroom and BESTA media cabinets. We also make custom table tops for the GALANT office system.

Can you copy they're existing door styles?
No, their door styles are completely their own. We do not copy or match Ikea® doors. Rather offer more choice.

What are Kitch doors made of?
We have a range of doors. Veneer slab doors comprise of a thin layer of real wood that is applied to both sides of a 3/4" core. MDF, or PBC are the most commonly used cores, and both cores we use have a density twice that of Ikea doors. That's why it's the standard substrate for kitchen cabinet doors. Our Gloss range is an Acrylic layer applied to an HDF core, 2 sided. Supermatte doors also have an MDF core.  For more specifics, please consult our Materials page.

Do you make solid slab doors?
No.  We have found that they are not dimensionally stable.

How do the edges on your doors come?
Kitch veneer doors and components have 1.5 mm(1/16") thick matching veneer edge-banding (Industry-standard is .5 mm). Colour and matte doors have 1.3mm zero joint ABS edging (where available).  MDF Slab doors have a 1.5mm radius edge profile.  This provides for easier application of paint.

What do you mean by "sequence-matched"?
"Sequence-matching" only refers to Kitch Veneer doors. To accomplish that, all the veneers for your particular room can come from the same tree with the grain matched per elevation to provide a repetitive pattern. All the door and drawer parts are then cut in "sequence" so that each piece cascades into the next and fits together like a puzzle.  For exceptionally large rooms, more than one sequence may be used, but we're always careful to choose veneers with similar grain patterns and colouring.
Please note: 1) While our veneers do have repetitive book-matching patterns on them, we do not offer the traditional definition of "book-matched veneers" in which each door and drawer face has the book-matching centred on it.  While stunning visually, that is a much more expensive process and involves tremendous waste.  2) Panels, trim, filler and Toe Kick do not run in sequence, although they do come from the same veneer "batch" as the doors and drawer faces to ensure similar grain-pattern and colouring.

Do you offer glass doors?
Not at this time.

What type of finish do you offer for your wood doors?
In this case, the word "finish" refers to the product's protective final coating.  It does not refer to a material choice, like "Walnut" or "Oak."  Because of the exposure to water and heat in kitchens, we want Kitch doors to have maximum protection.  A 10 Deg  conversion varnish is the only finish we offer.  It is applied using an automated spray line to ensure consistent results.

Can I match your finish?
Our finish is a conversion varnish made by Acroma. It is commercial-grade, not available for purchase on store shelves, and should be:
1) applied with professional spray equipment, in a closed booth environment
2) heated again while drying to accelerate/activate the hardening process

Do you stain your doors?
No.  When we talk about "staining," we mean darkening veneer which can both highlight or obscure the natural tones of wood. Our veneers have a clear-coat finish to let the wood's natural beauty shine through.

Do you paint your doors?
No.  If you want painted doors,  Your MDF Slab doors are perfect for you; we'll send everything unfinished, and you can either paint the parts yourself or you can find someone locally to get you the exact shade and tone you want.  We do offer a multitude of colour options in our Matte and Gloss collections.

How do I care for my doors?
Use a damp cloth with non-abrasive soap to clean your cabinets and dry immediately. Never leave any water standing on cabinet surfaces.  Orange oil/wax is also effective, as is mineral spirits, but please use sparingly. For the Gloss line, a gentle window cleaner works wonders. Be sure to buff it with a clean microfibre cloth.

Our Doors With Their Kitchen Systems

Do you make doors that fit Ikea's recently discontinued kitchen system?
We can make new doors, without the drilling patterns for you.  The best way to fit these on your older system would be to clamp the old door onto the new and drill thru.  The european hinge used is a larger hole and we would recommend using a drill press for this.

What if I just need a few replacement doors for my older kitchen?
As noted above, we don't copy any of their door styles.  For that, we suggest trying stores (even ones out of town), go on Ebay, or search the Web.  If that doesn't work, you might need to get creative by threading in a few Kitch doors.

Do all your fronts come in the sizes that they offer?
Yes, we make all standard sizes that they offer.

Is everything pre-drilled to accept their hardware?
Yes, all doors, drawer faces and plinths/toe-kicks are pre-drilled to exact Blum specifications.

Do you offer dishwasher, refrigerator and other custom-sized appliance panels?
We do. We just need your appliance specs.  Please note: all panels are made to recommended manufacturer dimensions, but drilling for attachment to the particular appliance is entirely the responsibility of the customer or installer (this is industry-standard, and easy-to-follow templates come with the instructions).

If we've picked out door handles/drawer pulls we like, will you pre-drill the holes for them?
Unfortunately, no.  Decorative hardware drilling is best done on-site.

Do you offer base, wall and tall panels?
We do!  For more information, read the next answer below.

Any major differences between Kitch parts and theirs?
The biggest difference is our panels are 3/4" thick, and theirs are 1/2" and 5/8."
Note: Our components are over-sized 38mm (1.5") to account for irregularities in walls, floors and ceilings.  They are meant to sit flush with the cabinet door for the most built-in look.  Base and tall panels are meant to go directly to the floor, as opposed to having the plinth/toe-kick return around the cabinet's side.  The components are banded on all 4 sides, giving you some options as well.

Should I be concerned about the white or brown showing?
No.  Neutral edges are standard with European cabinetry, as is a 3mm  reveal between doors and drawer faces; you'll only notice the gap if you look very closely.  For anything that is exposed - like the sides of cabinets and adjustable feet - we offer matching panels and toe-kicks for a completely fitted look.

Ordering & Design Options For Your Doors

Can I design my kitchen by myself?
Absolutely, most clients do!  Click here for the free (and amazingly easy-to-use) Ikea® Kitchen Planner.  Once your design is complete, forward us the completed plans (with elevations) directly from the website, or download the PDF and email that to us.  You'll need our email address: design@mykitch.ca

If you're having trouble, you could also try sending us the login information you used to create your account - the email address  you used and the password - and we'll access the plans ourselves.

Can I work with other design programs or an architect?
Yes, we can definitely use Google Sketch-up or architectural CAD drawings as long as elevations with dimensions are included and they are sent in PDF or JPEG format.  Even hand-drawings work if they're legible!

If I modify a cabinet, can you make me a custom door/drawer size?
It really depends on the cabinet in question.  Contact us directly for more details.

What if I've got a kitchen/bathroom from someone else. Can you make doors for that?
We can send you the  tailor made form.  With a few of your dimensions we can help size the panels for you. Contact us directly for details.

Do you offer custom cabinets?
Currently, we limit our custom offerings to component panels only.

What if I want something really custom? Can you send me unfinished parts that match the rest of the kitchen so I can find someone local to make the piece?
We can send you the  tailor made form.  With your dimensions we can size the panels for you.  Contact us directly for more details.

My layout is complete, what's next?
Once your layout is complete, email us your plans; we’ll confirm within 24-48 hours and send you an estimate within 3-4 days.  Note: please send the entire design (with all the kitchen views) not just an itemized list of parts.

What is the lead-time on orders?
3-5 weeks from date of deposit.
Can my order be expedited?
Yes. Depending on the material, orders can be expedited for an additional cost.  Contact us directly for more details.

How much is shipping?
Shipping can vary depending on size, weight and location of your order. We also offer pick-up at our Edmonton, Alberta studio.

What payment options do you offer?

We accept Visa and Mastercard.

Will there be sales tax on my order?
In Canada you are charged the sales tax of the province you live in.

What if I need to change my order?
We understand that design/construction changes often occur, sometimes even after an order is placed.  The client is allotted 3 business days (from receipt of deposit) to make changes on regular orders. There is a minimum $50 Change Request Fee per revision, depending on complexity, which is applied to the remaining balance.
Any requests for revisions after this period are subject to a minimum $100 Change Request Fee per revision - again, depending on complexity - which is applied to the remaining balance.  Additionally, any changes made to an order after material is cut will incur a Re-Stocking Fee, a Change Request Fee and the cost of new item.  (Client is welcome to keep unused pieces, if desired.)

Kitch Shipping & Warranty

Where do you ship?
We ship everywhere in the contiguous US and Canadian provinces/Territories.

How is my order shipped?
All doors are shipped FEDEX Ground or LTL (that's means a private shipper with Less-Than-a-Truckload). All shipped orders are totally insured against damage.

Can I pick up my order?
Yes, customers are more than welcome to pick up their orders from the Kitch studio in Edmonton, Alberta (and Windsor, Ontario - coming Summer 2017).

Is there a size limit to what you ship?
To prevent damage, the maximum length of any Kitch piece we ship is 108".  (So if you need something taller it will come in 2 pieces and, please note, there will be a seam.)

What if I want to cancel my order?
We allow clients 48 hours to cancel their order, but they are responsible for any credit card processing fees.

What if something arrives damaged?
The only thing more important than getting your order right is making sure it arrives in mint condition. To that end, we take great care in packing everything and stand behind our shipping agents. We ask that all customers check their delivery upon arrival and notify us of any problems within 3 business days. Documenting damage is vital, so please take photos and save all packing material.

Please note: all damage claims are void if not made to Kitch within three (3) business days of delivery.

What is the Kitch warranty on doors?
Kitch offers a limited 10-year warranty against manufacturer-related defects for the Colour and Textured line.  The Veneer and Classic wood is 2 years.  MDF doesn't carry warranty, but we offer a 50% discount for replacement parts. Everyday occurrences like heat exposure, water damage, scratches and fading are not included.

Do you honour returns?
Because Kitch doors are made-to-order – nothing is made until your order is processed. Therefor, we can't offer returns. We will, however, fix any manufacturer-related imperfection if a claim is made within three (3) business days of arrival.
